If you love plants and especially house plants then the @mygreenstudy project is for you as it’s all about houseplants!
My Green Study is a student-led initiative for those who share an appreciation and interest in houseplants. It has recently launched Twitter, Instagram and Facebook pages aiming to create a community of fellow houseplant enthusiasts!
The @MyGreenStudy team is led by Dr Alastair Culham and includes a team of three University of Reading undergraduate students: Georgina Jarman, Matthew Magson and Alexandra Stammschröer.
The aim of the project is to produce engaging and informative content for the people discovering and following the project, including a houseplant database with care instructions and photographs.
In addition to this, @MyGreenStudy is running houseplant events at the University of Reading. The first plant swap and plant clinic last December was a great success with more than 200 plants given away on the day! The images above show house plants being grown for the swap, and the images below show the first plant swap event held in the University of Reading’s Students Union in Autumn 2019.
There is more to look forward to in 2020 including more plant swap events and workshops on how to propagate plants.
The students are running @MyGreenStudy as part of their dissertation projects and they are interested in investigating questions such as: Who owns houseplants? Why do we keep houseplants? And how do social media and other trends influence our love of plants?
To collect data and to try to answer some of these questions Georgina Jarman has put together a brief survey which is for anyone over the age of 18 living in the UK or Ireland whether they own houseplants or not.
Georgina says: Please visit the following link to complete the questionnaire, it will take less than 15 minutes of your time and will help me collect add to my data set for my project and may also give you some insights into your own relationship with house plants!
You can find the survey here: https://reading.onlinesurveys.ac.uk/houseplant-ownership
