In March, Geoff Smith and Anna Wagner returned to the Museum of Dacian and Roman Civilisation in Deva (Romania) working with Dr. Catalin and Dr Pavel. We are continuing our collaboration with the Museum working on Middle Palaeolithic bone material.

Over our 2 week stay in Deva, we completed our recording and sampling of all the unidentified bone material for ZooMS (>1000 remains sampled). Anna also recorded and documented the larger, morphologically identifiable remains. During our research visit we were also joined by our COEXIST project collaborator Dr. Cornel Pop (Visiting Researcher,
University of Reading).

By combining our datasets, the COEXIST project aims to provide an in-depth environmental, ecological and taphonomic assessment of late Neanderthal site use in Romania.

We would like to thank all researchers at the Museum for their continued support and kindly hosting us during our visit in March.
