In 1869, Dmitri Mendeleev discovered the Periodic System which is the basis for our Periodic Table of Chemical Elements.  2019 is the 150th Anniversary of this discovery and has been designated the International Year of the Periodic Table. As Food chemists, supported by the RSC Food Group, we are releasing our own “Food” version of this with an infographic displaying the role and occurrence of each element in food, and in the human body.

We have started with Sulfur. Sulfur compounds have a wide range of functions in food as fertilisers, preservatives,  anticancer properties, and of course smell. It is not just responsible for the smell of rotten eggs, but gives important character to meat, and also tropical fruits. Here is our first release!
