The UN FAO has designated 2023 as the International Year of Millets.  The University of Reading’s rapid response policy engagement fund is supporting a Policymaker Knowledge Exchange in Nepal, focusing on millet cultivation in the Eastern Himalaya.  Dr Grady Walker from the Department of International Development is co-lead of the Himalayan University Consortium’s thematic working group on mountain agriculture.  With other partners from the consortium, Dr Walker will facilitate a workshop with stakeholders from the Eastern Himalayan region.  A key output will be a policy brief on the food security and heritage roles that millets play in the region.  Dr Walker will also teach a masterclass on the use of visual storytelling as evidence in policy advocacy and the other co-lead of the working group, Dr Chubamenla Jamir, will teach a masterclass on food security assessment tools.
