We are delighted to announce that Dr. Jo Davies, Associate Professor of International Development at the University of Reading and member of the Global Development Research Division, was part of the Decolonising the Curriculum Working Group, which won the prestigious 2024 ‘University Collaborative Award for Outstanding Contribution to Teaching and Learning’. This annual award scheme recognises and rewards groups of staff and students who have made exceptional, significant, and ongoing contributions to the student learning experience. This could either be through collaborating as a team to achieve goals beyond what could be achieved individually or by creating and working as a team in order to generate new solutions that demonstrably impact colleagues and/or students. In 2024, three collaborative projects emerged as winners of the award, winning a prize of £3000 each.

Dr. Jo’s collaborative project, Decolonising the Curriculum Working Group, was launched in 2022 by Professor Allan Laville to create an institutional vision and resources for decolonising the curriculum. Co-produced with student inclusion consultants, the resources have been widely embedded, including in teaching, learning programmes, inclusion guidance, the awarding gaps toolkit, and researcher development. The group facilitated open discussions, establishing trust and active listening. Their work has had a significant impact, receiving an Advance HE commendation and dissemination within and beyond the university.

Congratulations to the winning teams!
