Division Member Dr. Marie Aronsson-Storrier has just published a gap analysis of Sweden’s implementation of the Sendai Framework commissioned by the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB). The primary purpose of the study was to analyse the extent to which Sweden has implemented the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030’s fifty-nine measures for the national and local levels, and which measures should be developed to strengthen the country’s ability to meet the global targets.
The research concludes that although significant progress has been achieved by Sweden’s DRR efforts, various challenges still need to be overcome to improve Sweden’s performance in relation to many of the measures. The study calls for a more comprehensive understanding of risk, increased funding for significant actors and more inclusive decision-making processes and policy choices.
