Our Vision and Values

We will establish a community of researchers and professionals, and facilitate the development of high quality research funding bids to realise the research and impact potential of the University of Reading’s collections.

We will also connect collections across disciplines with an initial focus on Heritage & Creativity disciplines, and engage with historical research, creative and design practice, and participatory and science engagement.

We will help deliver impact by connecting stakeholders with collections which hold meaning for them via high quality and innovative research methods. Impact and research engagement with collections will draw on the expertise of cultural engagement specialists who work in the University’s collections and on their strong partnerships outside the Higher Education Institution sector.

The University of Reading’s collections are varied, representing the academic expertise of the University and the connections of the University to the surrounding region. They offer the potential for detailed historically focused research but also offer opportunities for creative and design research and engagement with scientific disciplines.

The significance of the collections cuts across traditional disciplinary divides and offers opportunities to work in collaboration with professionals and community stakeholders to co-create innovative research outputs and impact. The collections also offer the opportunity to engage with knowledge transfer with the cultural, heritage, and creative sectors both in the UK and Internationally.

By building on existing partnerships with communities, non-Higher Education Institution organisations, and policy makers, the HCIC will become a hub for excellence around co-created research.
