A prize-winning design has gone on display at a Woodley pharmacy as part of a project to address antibiotic-resistant bugs.

Day Lewis Pharmacy will be showing two interactive displays throughout September 2018, following a competition earlier this year looking at how creative design can be used to communicate important public health messages.

The project, Information Design and Architecture in Persuasive Pharmacy Space: combating AMR, is the work of a team of academics at the University of Reading with expertise in graphic design, pharmacy practice and architecture, and pharmacists at Day Lewis. You can read more about it on our Research page.

The winning entry is on display from the 3rd of September 2018. ‘Good Bugs, Bad Bugs’, developed by a team from Napper Architects, is a 6-foot high installation made up of cartoon story boards which turn, displaying information about common types of infection and also suggesting ways to prevent overusing antibiotics, especially for illnesses which don’t require them. There is also a prescription barometer, and knitted bugs (pictured above)

From the 24th of September, you will then be able to see ‘Beat Bad Bugs’ on display, which features life-size cartoon cutouts, activities for children and information leaflets which will be included in prescription bags.

You can read the full press release on the University of Reading’s news website.

The project was funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council.
