Role: Lecturer in International Business and Strategy

School: Henley Business School

Department: International Business and Strategy

Theme: Prosperity and Resilience

Expertise: My main research interests lie at the intersection between Economic Geography and International Business. In particular, foreign direct investment (FDI) effects, local labour markets, educational choices, human capital development, informality, firm internationalisation strategies, FDI policy and systems of innovation. The focus of my research is on emerging economies.

About me: Currently I am exploring three main research avenues. First, the effects of MNEs’ activities in the host economy for example, by exploring the extent to which FDI may affect the degree of informality in the host economy or by looking at how MNE presence affects the provision of local vocational training. Second, the effects of emerging country outward FDI decisions on the home economy, for instance on the demand for different types of labour or productivity spillovers at home. Finally, I explore the determinants of both inward and outward FDI in the context of emerging economies, for example how the presence of organised crime affects foreign MNE investment decisions or how the regional characteristics shape firms’ decisions to invest abroad.
