Jianing Fang is a PhD Student at Columbia University working with Professor Pierre Gentine. His research focuses on developing hybrid machine learning–process models to advance understanding of the terrestrial carbon cycle. He applies differentiable modeling techniques to investigate the coordination of plant traits that regulate global carbon turnover and the mechanisms controlling canopy energy balance. His previous work includes reconstructing solar-induced fluorescence datasets across diurnal to multidecadal timescales using satellite observations and machine learning.
