Daniil Scheifes is a PhD candidate in plant ecology at Utrecht University, working on plant ecological strategies. He investigates how trade-offs between carbon gain and water loss are shaped by nutrient acquisition strategies and soil nitrogen–phosphorus availability, and how this drives variation in plant traits and structures plant communities. His research combines fieldwork in Europe and Australia with analyses of large trait datasets to link leaf-level processes to whole-plant and ecosystem-scale patterns.
