The Medieval Ritual Landscape project invites finders within reach of King’s Lynn, Norfolk, to bring in their medieval leaden artefacts for recording and analysis on 24th November 2024. We hope to learn more about how medieval devotional objects were made by analysing their composition through a surface technique that is non destructive and non invasive. Our focus is on medieval objects made from lead alloys.
Analyses will be conducted on the day by a team from the University of Reading’s REMADE project. Finders are invited to bring in a range of items, including devotional objects, but also others which will provide essential background data. We welcome items already recorded with the PAS for metal analysis as well as new objects for recording.
