On 10 September, MeRit held its first ‘citizen science’ workshop at the Yorkshire Museum, the attendees representing local metal-detecting clubs joining together to co-curate a display in the Museum foyer. Michael Lewis (British Museum) with Becky Griffiths (Yorkshire Museum) introduced MeRit and the project idea, followed by a tour of the Museum’s medieval galleries led by Harry Ellerd-Cheers, Associate Collections Curator.

Thereafter all discussed the themes for the display, objects it might include, collaboration with other finders and future plans. The idea is to have the display installed in February 2025, then partner with students at the University of York St John to help bring the stories behind the finds alive through animation. A public talk and celebration event is planned for 24 July 2025.
