Research Scientist in tropical climate and high-impact weather (NCAS)

Current Research Projects:

  • Scale interactions between large-scale tropical climate drivers and local extreme weather in the tropics (in the current and future climate)
  • East African mesoscale convective systems in observations and km-scale models

Research Interests:

  • extreme weather in the tropics
  • MJO, IOD, and ENSO
  • air-sea interactions
  • convection and diurnal processes in the tropics

Education:

  • PhD, Environmental Sciences - University of East Anglia (2020-2024)
  • MSci, Geophysics with a Year Abroad - Imperial College London/University of California, Berkeley (2016-2020)

Supervision

  • 2025 - Sean Kelley, MSc University of Reading - Lead supervisor: "Using machine learning to predict the intensification and propagation of East African storms"

  • Sat on the NERC PtF July 2025 submission panel, scoring applications and co-authoring feedback
  • Co-led a meeting of the Africa Meteorology and Climate UK community in November 2025 (27 speakers, 40 in-person/>40 online attendees)
  • Co-organised NCAS Early Careet symposium (2025, 2026)
