Deposit Modelling

Developing conceptual, two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) models of buried geoarchaeological deposits to support archaeological investigation and landscape interpretation. Services include:

  • Development of deposit models – producing 2D and 3D models that reconstruct the distribution, thickness, and character of subsurface deposits using geoarchaeological, archaeological and geotechnical data.
  • Integration of multiple datasets – combining information from boreholes, sediment cores, archaeological excavations, geotechnical investigations, historic records, and previous site investigations to create a comprehensive interpretation of subsurface conditions.
  • Assessment of archaeological potential – identifying areas where archaeological deposits are most likely to survive, evaluating preservation conditions, and highlighting zones of higher or lower archaeological sensitivity to guide future investigations.
  • Landscape reconstruction – reconstructing the evolution of former environments, such as river valleys, floodplains, wetlands and coastal landscapes, to place archaeological remains within their wider environmental context.
  • Desk-based and project-wide applications – producing deposit models from newly acquired field data or entirely from existing archaeological and geotechnical datasets where sufficient information is available, allowing models to be developed early in the planning process or refined as additional evidence becomes available.
