The Friendship Tree wellbeing tool
This wellbeing tool has been co-designed by the young people in our workshops, who emphasised that when possible, it is important to be kind, friendly and supportive to those around you, as well as knowing you are supported. The idea was that each child could contribute by anonymously writing a message of friendship and support to other year 6 and year 7 pupils.
At the friendship booth at the Resilience Fair, pupils have written their positive messages on leaves and then stuck these on the the friendship tree poster. There was a phrase bank available to help pupils but most came up with their own personal message. Then, these messages have been collected and made into a friendship tree poster with a random selection of the positive messages. Each school will receive a personal friendship tree, so the children can read these messages gaining a sense that there are ‘people out there who care’ or ‘understand’ and facilitating a positive sense of community and support among their peers.
With the help of all the messages written by pupils we have also created a Friendship Forest to share with you. Each school we worked with on this project has their own tree, which is part of a greater forest, a community that has been created with the Resilience Rucksack Project.
