Residential Electricity Demand: Peaks, Sequences and Markov Chains
Research questions we are aiming to answer:
- How do timing and duration of activities vary at different temporal, spatial and socio-demographic scales?
- Which clusters of consumers can be identified based on activity sequences and socio-demographic information?
- Which sequences of activities that occur during peak demand can be shifted?
Expected outcomes
Understanding the sequences of activities and structure of the daily routines could provide information to smart home automation systems enabling residential demand side response services. In the future demand side flexibility in the residential sector will be enabled by automated demand management services whose algorithms will be based on information about routines in the home.
Identifying the activities and sequences of activities could support the accuracy of the algorithms for automation.
