Stories on the Move is a collaboration between researchers in the University of Reading’s Department of Languages & Cultures, the Centre for Book Cultures and Publishing, and Institute of Education, experts in creative translation, immersive education storytelling and games, and languages ICT education, working in partnership with Outside in World, the organisation dedicated to exploring, promoting and celebrating children’s books from around the world in translation to English. It has received funding from the University of Reading’s Research Endowment Trust Fund and AHRC Impact Accelerator Account.
Dr Sophie Heywood is project lead. She is Associate Professor in French, and a founding Co-Director of the Centre for Book Cultures and Publishing at the University of Reading. She specializes in children’s books and publishing, and convenes a webinar series on translation for children in partnership with Outside in World (recordings can be found online here).

Mrs Barbara King is project co-lead. She is Lecturer in Education specializing in Modern Foreign Languages.

Dr Emma Page is post-doctoral research assistant. She recently completed her PhD on translation and advocacy in contemporary UK children’s publishing funded by the AHRC at the Universities of Reading and Cardiff, and also works as a professional translator.
