DEEP (DEvelopmental assessment on an E-platform) assesses a range of cognitive domains (manual speed and coordination, inhibitory control, visual perception and integration, reasoning, categorisation and memory) in preschool children (2-6 years old). DEEP comprises 14 games that are integrated into an overarching storyline aimed to maximise a child’s attention and engagement with the tool. This tool was developed by the teams at Sangath and Harvard University.
DEEP was conceptualised through an inter-disciplinary team comprising neuroscientists, clinicians (paediatricians, psychologists, psychiatrists), public health experts, data scientists and a game design agency. DEEP has been found to be highly acceptable to children and their families and feasible for delivery by trained non-specialists (Bhavnani et al., 2019). DEEP has shown to be able to predict child performance on the cognitive domain of a gold-standard developmental assessment tool (Mukherjee et al., 2020).
