Postgraduate study at the ICMR

The ICMR Research Staff participate in the teaching of MSc in Food and Nutritional Sciences accredited by the UK Nutrition Society, MSc in Molecular Medicine, and the MSc by Research in Biomedicine, which involves a 30-week research project in the laboratory of their choice.

Undergraduate study at the ICMR

The ICMR Research Staff are involved in teaching in all Biology, Food Science, and Nutrition BSc programmes and the MPharm degree programme, at the University of Reading. Whilst undertaking their degree, students will have the opportunity to choose one of our laboratories for their final year’s Research Project.

ICMR Free Online Course

The ICMR at the University of Reading has produced and runs several times a year a free online course through FutureLearn to introduce the structure and function of the cardiovascular system and some of the conditions that can affect it. Short videos, weekly home practice exercises that you can watch or carry out, online discussion activities and weekly quizzes are used to introduce cardiovascular disease to the general public.

Research at ICMR is closely aligned with the needs of industry. The Institute has strong links with companies in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, food and nutrition sectors. Our partners range from multinational companies to small to medium enterprises. We are flexible in our approach to working with business, and can offer a wide range of services including:

  • Consultancy:experienced key opinion leaders provide consultancy services to clients seeking advice and expertise.
  • Contract services:high quality technical services and equipment available to hire for testing, sampling, and analysis.
  • Knowledge transfer partnerships:The KTP programme assists businesses and charities to improve their competitiveness and productivity through making use of the knowledge, technology and skills in universities.
  • Collaborative R&D:research that is of mutual interest to business and the Institute is often undertaken in collaboration with a company partner or consortium of partners, either funded directly by our partner companies or through the grants that are available.
  • Training and Continuing Professional Development: bespoke training and short courses designed to meet the needs of employers.
  • Intellectual property:technology developed at the university can be licensed to business partners to facilitate commercialisation.
  • Placements:taking students on placements as part of their course or during vacations can provide access to short-term resource and enable skills to be assessed prior to recruitment. The ICMR is committed to working with business to transfer its knowledge and expertise.
