The University of Reading have appointed two Advancing the Frontiers of Earth System Prediction Fellows who were successfully awarded their fellowships following an open call for applicants in 2025.
These prestigious fellowships will advance the AFESP mission to push the boundaries of earth system prediction and to cultivate a new generation of researchers at the forefront of innovation, while strengthening collaborations with AFESP’s key partners and expanding the University of Reading’s expertise in environmental prediction.
Julia Kukulies joins us following a period as a postdoctoral Fellow at NSF National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) and her research will focus on investigating precipitation physics in km-scale models and their impacts on extreme precipitation.
Mark Muetzelfeldt secures his fellowship following a PhD and postdoctoral positions within the department and his research will focus on using high-resolution models to improve the representation of convective organisation in coarser models, and implications for predictability.
