A blog post titledRemoval of the DfE Proficiency Scales: A missed opportunity’ by Dr. Naomi Flynn (Associate Professor of Primary English Education at the University of Reading’s Institute of Education) has been published today on the EAL Journal website. The Journal is an on-line termly magazine, managed by NALDIC (National Association for Language Development in the Curriculum).

The key message highlighted in this blog post is that the removal of mandatory assessment of EAL learner’s English proficiency was actioned before this new policy had time to bed down.

This blog post is based on key arguments and research findings presented in Dr. Flynn’s recently-published co-authored article, titled Intentions versus enactment: making sense of policy and practice for teaching English as an additional language.
