On Wednesday 13 November 2019, three UROP students who spent the summer working on three IoE research projects had an opportunity to present their research poster at the University of Reading’s Undergraduate Research Showcase event.

Supporting Dr. Daisy Powell’s (Associate Professor in the Psychology of Written Language) project is Alex Holton (BA Primary Education with Mathematics), and the project is about word learning in bilingual children. Supporting Dr. Holly Joseph’s (Associate Professor of Language Education and Literacy Development) project is Elle Armstrong (BA Primary Education with English). The project is about reading comprehension in children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Finally, supporting Dr. Billy Wongs (Associate Professor in Widening Participation) is Layan Kawas (BSc in Mathematics and Psychology). His SESTEM project focused on the views of STEM lecturers on diverse teaching challenges and strategies.

Each summer, UROP (University of Reading Undergraduate Research Opportunities Programme) offers undergraduate students the chance to gain hands-on experience on research projects. This can make a significant contribution to a student’s transferable skills, employability and understanding of the research environment.

More details of UROP can be found here.
