Prof. Alan Floyd (Professor of Education, University of Reading) and his colleagues at the University of Qatar (including Dr. Saba Mansoor Qadhi, a former doctoral student of Prof. Floyd) have been successful in being awarded USD260,000 by the Qatar National Research Fund for their research project entitled “Exploring Gender and Academic Leadership Development in Qatar”.
The aim of this project is to explore the leadership development experiences and needs of academic middle leaders in Qatar and to see what role gender has in influencing these. It will be a two-year mixed-methods study. First, we will undertake life history interviews with approximately 30-40 male and female middle leaders. Then we will use Q methodology to generate both qualitative and quantitative data (N=40). By exploring these two crucial and interlinked issues, the study aims to provide a highly original contribution to knowledge that will have major implications for the future development of higher education within the country.
This most recent research grant success comes right after another research grant worth £300,000 that Prof. Floyd and his colleagues at the Open University secured from the Economic and Social Research Council’s UKRI Covid-19 Open Call Bid.
We would like to congratulate Prof. Floyd and his research colleagues on these research grant successes and we look forward to sharing the projects’ updates with members of our IoE community in the coming months.
