Jessica Horne

I am a qualitative researcher based at the University of Sussex. I first joined FoodSEqual in 2022 and have since developed several reports for the project, drawing on data gathered by community researchers in Tower Hamlets on topics such as oil and fats, organic vegetables, and food bank use. I have expertise in creative qualitative research methods including walking methods and visual methods, which I use in my research and teaching with postgraduate students. My PhD uses visual methods to explore the social and affective dimensions of volunteering in the cultural sector; suggesting practical and conceptual understandings of women’s unpaid labour and its role in maintaining and supporting broader social reproduction systems which include food organising and organisations. In my role as Lecturer at the University of Sussex, I regularly facilitate large groups of students and currently teach research methods. I also support research workshops and events with community researchers in Tower Hamlets.
