Today saw the first Medieval Ritual Landscape project outreach session as three members of the MeRit team introduced the project to staff of the Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS) online. Over 30 PAS Finds Liaison Officers and colleagues heard Principal Investigator, Roberta Gilchrist, explain the genesis of the project, its research questions and aims. Next, Rob Webley, Research Fellow in Archaeology, discussed the project database and the kind of medieval objects the project will be considering in detail. Finally, Co-Investigator Michael Lewis outlined plans for outreach activities in our three case study areas of North Yorkshire, Norfolk and Kent, as well as plans for conferences – including at this year’s EAA meeting in Rome.

It was great to meet the staff of our key collaborating institution and discuss how their work can help inform our investigations into medieval lived religion. We look forward to working with them closely over the coming years!
