Here are all the successful projects that received funding in January 2026.

Dr Jorge Campos Gonzalez (School of Agriculture, Policy & Development) has been awarded a Horizon Europe grant as lead investigator on the project ‘Co‑creating Sustainable Biomass Production and Soil Health Restoration for Diverse European Landscapes (SOILBIOMASS).’

Professor Sokratis Stergiadis (School of Agriculture, Policy & Development) has received a Horizon Europe award as co‑investigator for ‘Advancing Climate‑Resilient RUMinant Farming Systems Integrating Genomics, Environment, and Management Strategies (RUMINATE).’

Professor Giacomo Zanello (School of Agriculture, Policy & Development) has been awarded Horizon Europe funding to investigate ‘Local, equitable, and sustainable solutions for child malnutrition in Africa (LESS MALNUTRITION).’

Dr Maria Maiarù (School of Chemistry, Food & Pharmacy) has secured a UKRI research grant as lead investigator for the project ‘Stem Cell‑Derived Extracellular Vesicles as Novel Tools for Inflammatory Recalibration and Resolution of Chronic Pain.’

Dr Piril Hepsomali (School of Psychology & Clinical Language Sciences) has received Horizon Europe funding as co‑investigator/subcontractor on ‘Nutrition for Mental Health Promotion and Prevention: Evidence, Effectiveness, and Implementation (NUTRI‑MIND).’

Dr Andrea Monteagudo (School of Psychology & Clinical Language Sciences) has been awarded a BBSRC research grant to examine ‘Systemic integration of gut microbial modulation effects across the Gut‑Immune‑Brain Axis (GIBA).’

Dr Patricia Sanz Morales (School of Chemistry, Food & Pharmacy) has secured a BBSRC research grant for ‘A randomised controlled trial investigating the probiotic‑mediated suppression of inflammatory cytokines as a mechanism for improving wellbeing.’

Dr Amna Shibeika (School of the Built Environment) has been awarded UKRI funding for the project ‘Transforming Dementia Care through Built Environment Adaptation.’

Dr Alice Mauchline (School of Agriculture, Policy & Development) has received Innovate UK funding for ‘Cover Crops: Using Sensing Technologies to Do More with Less.’

Dr Emanuele Silvio Gentile (School of Mathematical, Physical & Computational Sciences) has been awarded a standard research grant from the Met Office for ‘INT – Assessing the Feasibility of the Bris Regional AI Weather Model for WCSSP Applications.’

Dr Zoe Barker (School of Agriculture, Policy & Development) has secured Innovate UK funding for the project ‘Precision Calf Health and Stress Monitoring.’

Dr Kirsty Kliem (School of Agriculture, Policy & Development) has been awarded Innovate UK support to investigate ‘The relationship between gene expression and methane emissions in lactating dairy cows.’

Dr Ian Cunnings (School of Psychology & Clinical Language Sciences) has received a British Academy grant for ‘Advancing Research Synthesis in Linguistics.’

Professor Steve Mithen (School of Archaeology, Geography & Environmental Science) has been awarded funding from the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland for dating human remains from Nave Island.
