Dr Alex Arnall has recently been awarded funding by the ESRC-DFID Development Frontiers scheme for an 18 month research project entitled ‘Negotiating conflict: Environmental violence, economic development and the everyday practices of islanders’.
He is Co-I on the project, with Prof Uma Kothari (PI) from the University of Manchester and Dr Mizna Mohamed (Co-I) from the Maldives National University. The research will explore, through ethnographic and geographic fieldwork, how conflicts over environmental and economic change emerge, perpetuate and are eventually resolved in different locations in the Maldives archipelago.
