Elaine McGreevy who will deliver a talk entitled How to create enabling communication environments for autistic children and young people
Elaine will cover:
- An overview of autistic communication and autistic languaging
- The role of the communication partner in enabling communication: considerations for supporting spoken and non-spoken communication
- Practical strategies that we can use right away
Followed by a Q & A with the audience.
This talk is suitable for all to attend.
A graduate of Trinity College Dublin, in 1996, Elaine worked in the NHS in Northern Ireland, until 2021, as clinical lead speech and language therapist in Child Development, Surestart, and Autism Services. She is passionate about supporting non-speaking and semi-speaking autistic children and young people. She believes that everyone who cannot rely on speech alone to be heard and understood should have access to robust Augmentative and Alternative Communication options without barriers.
The Centre for Autism Wellbeing Hub
The Wellbeing Hub is a new initiative, funded by University of Reading Alumni. The aim of the Hub is to bring together autistic people, their families, practitioners and researchers to co-produce and deliver neurodiversity-affirming activities that support autistic young people and their families to thrive and flourish.
