A new exhibition in the Department of Typography & Graphic Communication charts the development of type and type-making technologies in China, from the invention of movable type in the eleventh century to the design of digital typefaces of today. It provides a great opportunity to learn more about the many innovative Chinese type designs created in different eras using varied techniques and technologies.

The exhibition is a selection and refinement of the exhibition, ‘Way of Type – Modernisation of Chinese Typography in China’, which has already toured seven cities in China. It is the result of a collaboration between the University of Reading and the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing.

Curated by Xunchang Cheng, with assistance from Xicheng Yang, Huati Wulan, Ahmet Berke Demir, Eric Kindel and Geoff Wyeth.
