The School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences at the University of Reading is inviting applicants for PhD studentships in Psychology and Language Sciences. Language research in the school covers psycholinguistics and the cognitive neuroscience of language, language development, bi-/multilingualism, and language disorders. We are looking for students interested in pursuing PhD projects along these broad themes. Successful applicants will have full access to facilities within the School, which include eye-tracking, TMS, EEG and MRI, and will become members of the various labs and research centres across the School and university. This includes the Psycholinguistics and Neurolinguistics Lab and the Bilingualism in the Brain Lab within the School, and the Centre for Literacy and Multilingualism and the Centre for Integrative Neuroscience and Neurodynamics across the university. A number of PhD studentships are currently available for study beginning in Autumn 2024, as described below.

Magdalen Vernon Studentship

The School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences offers the Magdalen Vernon Studentship. This is a 4-year PhD award that covers fees and provides a stipend via a graduate teaching assistantship. It is open to both UK and international applicants interested in PhD study in psychology, neuroscience, psycholinguistics or clinical language science. The deadline for applications is December 8th, 2023.

SEDarc Doctoral Training Partnership

The University of Reading is part of the ESRC funded South-East Doctoral Training Arc (SEDarc) Doctoral Training Partnership, which consists of six research-intensive universities in the south-east of England. SEDarc offers studentships for either PhD study (for 3.5 years) or combined MSc/PhD study involving a 1-year MSc followed by a PhD. These studentships are open to UK and international applicants, and cover fees and a yearly stipend. To apply for one of these studentships with the University of Reading, please complete our Expression of Interest form as soon as possible. University of Reading International PhD Studentships

The University of Reading also offers studentships covering fees and a stipend for international students. This is available to students who either wish to study in Reading or complete a PhD by distance (though note that the scholarship for by-distance students covers fees only).
