We are pleased that Xin Du, our visiting PhD student (September 2018-February 2019) from Xi’an Jiaotong University, China, has published an article in the International Journal of Science Education with his mentor, Dr. Billy Wong (Associate Professor in Widening Participation).

During his time at Reading, Xin and Billy worked on a research paper entitled, ‘Science Career Aspiration and Science Capital in China and UK: A comparative study using PISA data’, which utilised the OECD PISA 2015 database to extend and evaluate the applicability of the concept of ‘science capital’ in the context of China, especially in understanding and explaining students’ aspirations toward science.
