Raising the Pulse of our Daily Bread:

Systems analysis of the environmental, nutritional and health balance of staple foods

Raising the Pulse (RtP), a three-year UKRI-funded project is designed to transform the food system for health and environment. Focused on faba beans, RtP aims to increase UK pulse consumption for health and sustainability. By including faba bean flour in traditional foods such as breads, RtP can help overcome barriers to adoption of these health-giving foods and stimulate consumer demand. It addresses market gaps by uniting experts across various domains to develop pathways for faba bean-enriched UK foods. RtP’s interdisciplinary team collaborates with industry, government, and civil society to promote plant-based, pulse-rich foods, enhancing both sustainability and health.

The ‘Raising the Pulse’ (RtP): Systems analysis of the environmental, nutritional and health benefits of pulse-enhanced foods project received funding from the UK Research & Innovation (UKRI) Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) in the Transforming UK Food System SPF Programme – Call 2.
