Principal Research Fellow in Tropical Cyclones (NCAS)

Responsibilities:

  • Joint Research Scientist in Tropical Cyclones at University of Reading and Imperial College London
  • Asia-Pacific Elite Typhoon Scholar, the Asia-Pacific Typhoon Collaborative Research Center
  • Visiting Professor in climate extremes and coastal hazardsi, Hohai University

Research Interests:

  • Tropical cyclone variability and predicability
  • Extreme weather and climate
  • Coastal extremes (sea level, ocean waves)
  • Improving high-impact weather forecasts

Current Research Projects:

  • SEA-COAST (PI, with Co-Is: Prof John Methven, Dr Kevin Hodges): Understanding and Prediction of Compound Ocean-Atmosphere Storms in the Tropics, the Met Office WCSSP Southeast Asia project, 2025–2028
  • Climate risk in the Southeast and East Asia (a tropical cyclone group led by Prof Ralf Toumi), Imperial College London, 2022–
  • FORWARDS (Reading PI, with a group of Co-Is): FORcasting high-impact Weather And extreme Rainfall Drivers and dynamics for Southeast Asia, the Met Office WCSSP Southeast Asia project, 2024–2027
  • HURACAN (Co-I, led by Prof Pier Luigi Vidale): HUrricane Risk Amplification and Changing North Atlantic Natural disasters, NSFGEO-NERC Large Grant project, 2023–2027
