Dr. Deepak Gopalakrishnan

Postdoctoral Research Scientist CIRCULATES Project

Responsibilities:

Postdoctoral Research Scientist on the CIRCULATES project (supervisor: Prof. Chris Holloway).

Research Interests:

  • Organised convection
  • Tropical convection and radiative feedback
  • Uncertainties in climate projections
  • Future changes in severe convective storms
  • Short-term predictability of high-impact weather events
  • Regional climate modelling

Current Research Project:

  • CIRCULATES: NERC funded project within the CloudSense programme that seeks to understand the effects of large-scale circulation and scale interactions on climate sensitivity due to cloud feedbacks.

Previous Research Projects:

  • A project funded by Aon Inc. at the Central Michigan University in collaboration with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign focusing on analysis of convective hazards in the present and future climate using ensembles of CMIP6 downscaled projections over the United States.
  • UAE-NATURE: A project funded by UAE Research Program for Rain Enhancement Science (UAEREP), aimed at understanding the quantitative effect and the associated uncertainties of cloud seeding on clouds, rainfall and groundwater in a long period over the UAE using an advanced large cloud chamber and advanced modelling capabilities.

Other Interests:

  • Climate communication
  • Blogging
