About

Andrew I. Philip is a Knowledge Exchange Fellow at the University of Reading as part of the AHRC-funded IAA ‘Screen Industries Voices’ research project. His practice as a research PhD project includes the production of a feature-length documentary incorporating AI synthetic media experiments. These methods provide a means to investigate research themes pertaining to memory, authorship, agency, and technology. Andrew has written about the characteristics of digital film colour in the context of his practice, published in the peer reviewed journal Comparative Cinema. The article includes an in-depth analysis of material shifts from colour to black-and-white using software colorimetry measurement tools to demonstrate the relationship between matter and meaning. Andrew has also worked for over two decades as an editor, animator and visual effects artist on feature films and broadcast documentaries.
