Dr Mathilde Pavis is an expert on the legal protection of people’s face, voice and body in digital media. Her research focuses on deepfakes, performance cloning or ‘synthetisation’ and their regulation through laws and contracts. Mathilde works with industry leaders to design equitable models for the use and commercialisation of synthetic voices and human likeness. Mathilde’s work has informed government consultations for law reform on these issues and has been cited in Parliament. She has appeared on BBC Radio 4 and has written for The Times and The Independent on various topics connected to intellectual property and digital media. More recently, Mathilde has taken her work to social media to share free resources and accessible information on the rights associated with digital cloning and performances via the YouTube Channel “A Lawyer in your corner”.
