Roundtable meeting on Copyright and AI Training Data

The SMRN hosted a roundtable meeting of UK organisations impacted by the scraping of creative artists’ data from the internet by AI developers, as well as a group of ethical AI companies committed to a responsible AI business model that respects the copyright of writers, artists, publishers, filmmakers, musicians and composers.

The meeting on 9th July 2024 included representatives of 125,000 authors, 8,000 directors, 37,000 songwriters and music publishers, 50,000 actors, as well as businesses responsible for marketing the creative output of 340,000 image makers, and 55,000 amateur filmers. We are looking towards encouraging and incentivising developers to license creative works for use in training their AI models, rather than scraping from the internet without permission and in breach of copyright.

Many thanks to all the participants.
