Following our successful first symposium on deepfakes sponsored by The Alan Turing Institute in 2022, we hosted a second event in the series on 5-6 July 2023: ‘Synthetic Media in the Screen Industries’.
This symposium brought together researchers and businesses who are at the leading edge of innovation in our field, together with stakeholders and policymakers responsible for balancing creative and commercial freedoms with social protection.
The symposium discussed the latest developments in synthetic media, and explored the creative applications of machine learning in the making of screen content. Our particular emphasis was on ethics, self-regulation and the law, which were the subject of Day 2 of the symposium.
The event was sponsored by the University of Reading’s AHRC Impact Accelerator Account.
