Nic King who will deliver a talk entitled Young autistic people and the importance of self-understanding

Nic will cover:

  • Creating supportive environments that enables young people onto a path of self-understanding, agency and advocacy.
  • Young autistic people feeling safe to be their authentic selves.
  • How environmental factors have a significant impact on this.
  • Giving autistic young people the knowledge and vocabulary for understanding and advocacy of their autistic identity
  • Why it’s important that young people and their safe adults have shared safe spaces
  • How NeuroBears can help

Followed by a Q & A with the audience.

About Nic King 
Nic King (She / They) is autistic and otherwise neurodivergent. They have two children and a husband who are all neurodivergent. Nic is the director of PANDAS Online and the creator of the NeuroBears, a course for autistic young people which is sold and licensed internationally. She is involved in various research projects and delivers training and consultancy in person and online to and for all ages, professions, and people. Nic passionately believes that through training and understanding, we create ripples of knowledge that spread and improve the outcomes for neurodivergent people, and that education, acceptance, and personal development are intrinsic to creating safe spaces for everyone to develop within.

The Centre for Autism Wellbeing Hub

The Wellbeing Hub is a new initiative, funded by University of Reading Alumni. The aim of the Hub is to bring together autistic people, their families, practitioners and researchers to co-produce and deliver neurodiversity-affirming activities that support autistic young people and their families to thrive and flourish.
