Introduction

Project TROPICAL was designed to translate UKRI funded research from the United Kingdom into an Overseas Development context. This project focusses on ecological intensification in economically important crops – mango and moringa with a view to enhancing the landscapes for pollinators and the pollination services they provide. While wildflower margins are a common intervention in agri-environmental scheme in the UK, these are not viable in the context of smallholder farms. TROPICAL, therefore, engaged with smallholder farmers from the project ideas stage to determine what floral enhancements would work within this context in the Kannivadi region of Tamil Nadu in India to try and improve quality and yield of produce in these two crops. The pages on this website provide information on our project aims, our team members, some insights into filed work as well as our stakeholder engagement and dissemination efforts.
