Autumn term

Half-term 1: Interacting with people in a variety of contexts (e.g. Online-Austausch, Klassenfahrt, birthday party, events, quiz)

Half-term 2: Interacting with people in a variety of contexts (e.g. in different countries, in school, with young children and friends)

Phonics: the SSC (sound-symbol correspondences) taught this term are: long & short forms of [a] [e] [i] [o] [u]; [ei] & [ie]; [w] [z]; soft & hard [ch]

Vocabulary: describing locations, nouns for people, nouns and verbs for activities, nouns for objects

Grammar: ‘sein’ and ‘haben’ (plural), modal verb ‘mögen’ (singular), present tense weak verbs (plural), present tense strong verbs (singular), preposition ‘in’ + location (dative), plural noun patterns, negation with ‘keine’ (plural), ‘dies-‘ (nominative), compounds

Spring term

Half-term 1: Exploring places, people and ideas (e.g. Germany and Switzerland, class survey, Online-Austausch)

Half-term 2: Exploring places, people and ideas (e.g. , fundraising, sports day, Klassenfahrt, weekend activities)

Phonics: the SSC (sound-symbol correspondences) taught this term are: [ä] [ö] [ü] [au] [eu|äu] [sch] [sp] [sf] [s-] [-s-] [ß] [ss] [-s]

Vocabulary: describing locations/destinations (e.g. north, south, east, west), verbs and nouns for activities, describing school, places around town

Grammar: word order (verb-second), present tense weak verbs (singular and plural), present tense strong verbs (singular), preposition ‘in’ with movement (accusative) and without movement (dative), two-verb structures with ‘gehen’

 

Summer term

Half-term 1: Experiences at home and away (e.g. Karneval, Fasching, weekend and holiday plans)

Half-term 2: Going on holiday, helping at home, holiday activities

Phonics: the SSC (sound-symbol correspondences) taught this term are:
[v] [r] [er-] [-er] [-ig] [-g] -d] [-b] [-tion] [th]

Vocabulary: Everyday states and feelings, verbs and nouns for activities, describing locations/destinations (e.g. north, south, east, west)

Grammar: ‘haben’ with meaning ‘be’, prepositions ‘nach’ and ‘zu’, future meaning with present tense + future time adverbials, possessive adjectives in nominative case (sein, ihr), present tense modal verbs, infinitive clauses with ‘zu’
