Every two years, the Applied Vision Association (AVA) invites nominations for the David Marr medal, which recognizes the achievements of an outstanding vision scientist in the early part of his or her research career. The award is named in memory of one of the United Kingdom’s most distinguished vision researchers.

For her work on typical and atypical visual development utilising combinations of psychophysics, EEG and computational modelling and for her promotion of open-science and science communication, the AVA has decided to award the Marr medal for 2021 to Dr Catherine Manning, a Lecturer in the School of Psychology and Language Sciences, University of Reading.
