Facial recognition impairments are a frequently reported symptom in Alzheimer’s Disease, yet the underlying causes remain unclear. This study aims to investigate the cognitive mechanisms that contribute to these deficits, with a novel focus on the perceptual processes involved in impaired face recognition. We predict AD patients to exhibit impairments in familiar face perception, driven by deficits in holistic and feature based facial processing. We also predict impairments in familiar face perception to correlate with reduced grey matter volumes across core face processing network (VOCT).
