About us

Hi!

I’m Elisa Bolchi and I’m (very proud to be) a Marie Curie Research Fellow at the University of Reading. I’ve created this site to share and communicate my research during my fellowship, in the hope to be a stimulus to other researchers and to Virginia Woolf readers and scholars around Italy and Europe. I am founding member and vice-president of the Italian Virginia Woolf Society. I have worked extensively on the reception of Virginia Woolf in Italy and on Anglo-Italian literary relationships.
I am also interested in Ecocriticism, in Modernism and Modernist writing in general. Please have a look at My Publications page, where you can download most of my essays and articles.

I will be working on this project supervised by two outstanding scholars such as Dr Daniela La Penna and Dr Nicola Wilson.

Dr La Penna is Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Cultures and Languages and she is a leading expert in Italian periodical studies and has published extensively in the fields of translation studies with a publishing history approach, women’s writing, and Anglo-Italian cultural relations. She was Co-I in the Leverhulme-funded, “Diasporic Literary Archives Project”, which brought together leading archives such as UREAD’s Special Collections, University of Pavia’s Centro Manoscritti, IMEC, the Beinecke Library at Yale, the National archives of Namibia and several archives in the Caribbean, to reflect on best practice for the preservation of endangered archives. La Penna was also P-I on the Art and Humanities Research Council (AHRC)-funded project “Mapping Literary Space: Publishers, Intellectuals and Literary Journals in Italy 1940-1960”. This project produced a number of outputs, including a bibliographic database, that will shape my approach to the role of publishers and literary journals in the Italian transmission and reception of Anglo-American modernism and Woolf in particular.

Dr Wilson is Associate Professor at the Department of English in the School of Literature and Languages at the University of Reading. She has worked extensively in publishing history with projects on the Book Society (P-I, British Academy) and the Impact and Distribution of Reading Patterns of British fiction (C-I, AHRC). She has written extensively on publishers’ and digital archives, literary censorship, and Leonard and Virginia Woolf’s Hogarth Press. She has published widely on literary history and print culture and her work is underscored by issues of feminism and class, which are particularly relevant to my project. She is the co-Director of the Modernist Archives Publishing Project – MAPP and co-founder with Dr La Penna of the Research Centre in Book Cultures and Publishing.

Ciao,
