ONLINE WEBINAR: Introduction to Databases and Data Science

Humanities researchers often work with rich collections of sources, but may not think of them as “data”. This introductory webinar explores how databases and data science approaches can help you organise, manage, analyse, and gain new insights from your research materials.

Led by Abbie Tibbott and Dr Alan Guedes, the session will introduce key concepts, including what data is, how to structure information, and the role databases play in supporting effective research.

No prior experience or knowledge necessary. The IDRC DH and DH Hub warmly invite researchers, professional services staff, and PhD students to this introductory session. The presentation will last just under an hour, with opportunities for questions at the end if attendees wish to stay.

This session is the first of three data science offerings led by Dr Alan Guedes, co-director of the IDRC DH, and lecturer in computer science. The next 2 workshops will be hands-on and interactive. We will share more details during the webinar.
