Environment

We work across a broad range of disciplines to explore, understand, and address climate change, biodiversity loss, and sustainability - both natural and as shaped by humans. We work with organisations around the world to tackle environmental challenges and provide solutions that are both adoptable and adopted.
Heritage & Creativity

Our Heritage & Creativity research shines a spotlight on the past and reflects on the value of arts and humanities research to society today. Focusing on contemporary global challenges, we foster public debate on issues such as migration and diaspora, health and (dis)ability, and the role of heritage and the creative industries in promoting inclusion and diversity.

Prosperity & Resilience

Research in our Prosperity & Resilience theme responds to pressing social and economic challenges, addressing key questions about how institutions, policies and practices can help people and society to prosper and how we can build resilience against economic, social, political or environmental shocks.

Public Engagement with Research

Public engagement with research is a vital part of how we connect our research with the world.

Research at the University of Reading addresses some of the biggest real world problems we face in the twenty-first century – from tackling climate change and providing food security to improving human health and understanding human culture.

Innovative engagement is an integral part of our research practice and research culture. Working across a broad range of disciplines, our researchers engage and collaborate with public and professional audiences to bring about positive change locally, nationally and internationally.

We engage with schools and community groups, charities and NGOs, businesses and industry, with museums and cultural groups, and with policy makers and policy shapers to ensure our research contributes to global debates and benefits the economic and social life of Reading and beyond.
