So, my life in Reading has started three days ago, and the first surprise, to me, was to find out that for the next two years I am going to have a ‘room of my own’. Woolf was absolutely right on the importance of having money (thanks EU!) and a room of one’s own, because as soon as I was able to spend time in my office I was able to concentrate and work, after two days of bureaucracy, house shopping and… getting lost wherever I went.
I can now say that the project has started: I have scheduled a series of meetings for my training in the archives and in Digital Humanities, and I will attend professor Madeleine Davies courses on Virginia Woolf (so thrilled!).
If you ask me what it feels like to be a Marie Curie Fellow, today I’d answer that it’s like being a young student again, but with experience, money and a room of one’s own.
Una stanza tutta per me
E così, la vivo a Reading da tre giorni ora, e la prima sorpresa che ho avuto è stato scoprire che per i prossimi due anni avrò una ‘stanza tutta per me’. Woolf aveva assolutamente ragione sull’importanza del denaro (grazie UE!) e dell’avere una stanza propria, perché non appena sono riuscita a trascorrere del tempo nel mio studio, sono riuscita a concentrarmi e a lavorare, dopo due giorni spesi tra burocrazia, acquisti per casa e, ehm… perdermi ovunque andassi.
Posso davvero dire di aver dato il via al progetto: ho programmato una serie di incontri per il mio training sugli archivi e sulle Digital Humanities, e seguirò anche le lezioni della professoressa Madeleine Davies su Virginia Woolf (non vedo l’ora!).
Se mi chiedeste com’è essere una Marie Curie Fellow, oggi vi risponderei che è come tornare una giovane studentessa, ma con esperienza, soldi e una stanza tutta per sé.
