Training courses
We provide both in-person training and an on-line course in data assimilation.

Data assimilation training @ Univ. of Reading 2025
Each year DARC and NCEO offer in-person training on data assimilation. The intensive week-long course introduces the commonly used data assimilation algorithms derived from a common framework and explores the strengths and weaknesses of each approach. The theoretical lectures are complemented by practical sessions allowing participants to obtain hands-on experience of the concepts covered.

ONLINE COURSE: Dare to discover data assimilation (data assimilation minus the maths)
If you are interested in learning about data assimilation but do not have a background in mathematical concepts or any specialist subject knowledge, then this free course is perfect for you. The course provides an introduction to the basic concepts of data assimilation and is particularly useful if you are a user of data assimilation products (e.g., reanalyses) or want to explore the possibilities of data assimilation for new applications.
The course is open for participation at any time.
