We welcome students, post docs and other researchers to our lab from around the world each year. If you are interested in joining us, please get in touch by either emailing the lab contact at the bottom of this page, or a relevant member of Staff.
Prospective PhD Students
We welcome PhD applicants for students interested in carrying out doctoral research in the lab. PhD students typically work towards either a PhD in Psycholinguistics, or a PhD in Clinical Language Sciences, depending on the focus of their project. If you are interested, the first step towards PhD study would be to contact a potential supervisor for your project directly (see our Staff page for contact details). From there, your potential supervisor can direct you further with regards to the application process and in mentoring your writing of a PhD research proposal.
There are several annual competitions for PhD funding available for UK and international students. More information about PhD funding opportunities for both Home and International students can be found on the Doctoral and Researcher College PhD Studentships webpage. Interested applicants can also visit the lab’s PhD Studentships webpage, which has further information about some of the studentships that we are happy to support in the lab.
Prospective Postdoctoral Researchers
We would be very keen to hear from you if you are interested in completing a postdoc in our lab. Funding for such positions is largely external. However, we have considerable experience in successfully mentoring prospective postdocs to obtain such funding. Depending on your background, applications could include but are not limited to the ESRC SEDarc Postdoctoral Fellowship scheme, the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship (EU funded), the Leverhulme Trust Fellowship or the British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship. These are applied for in conjunction with a member of staff. Additionally, when we have external grant funding that includes funding for postdocs, these positions will be advertised widely.
Please contact us via our Staff webpage if you are interested in applying for postdoctoral funding to join our lab. For further information on the postdocs that we are happy to support, please see our Postdoctoral Fellowships webpage.
MSc in Language Sciences
The School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences runs an MSc in Language Sciences that provides advanced postgraduate training in psycholinguistics and neurolinguistics and readies students for doctoral study. We welcome students from across the world onto the MSc each year. The university offers a range of Master’s Scholarships for UK and International students, and both Home and International students interested in combined MSc and PhD study can apply for studentships via the ESRC SEDarc Doctoral Training Partnership. All students on the MSc have the opportunity to complete a research placement and MSc dissertation project with a member of Staff in the lab.
